Hi Gang!!
I guess youve never been into many National receivers. They built their
own IF transformers and LC selectivity networks using Litz wire and even
cup cores which blow away your UNLOADED 180 Q.
When they closed most of their components operation I bought bins of
Litz wire and still have loads of it in numerous sizes.
Drake managed very impressive LC filtering in the 2A/2B and even better
up thru the R4-B.
Most of the Hammarlund receivers I've worked on also were wound were
built using Litz wire \
In the IF's, especially the later versions that were contemporary with the
SX-88. I will say that I have never owned an SX-88 but I have used several,
and I found them to be less capable than the 180/A's I've had. I am
conscious of noise floor and nothing compares to the 75S3/3B/C. Lots of
documentation out there on that as well.
My conclusion: SX-88 Collectable yes, better that what I'm currently
using, no.
