[Hallicrafters] re SX-88 pricing

I think Todd's right. There's nothing performance wise that justifies the
price of an SX-88.

Just like some muscle cars that bring prices far in excess of much better
stuff you can buy now. But it's a marvelous study in what was possible back in
the day, and with the bass reflex speaker I'm not sure what touches it
sonically, though the NC400 sounds great on AM most days, in a different sorta way.

You buy them because there's some personal mystique or nostalgia, or some
other personal connection, like ya got to have all the dual dial Hallis (my
weakness). Or to show off to your friends. Or the guys ya don't like :) If
any of those reasons fit, tune around on one before ya buy it and see if it
talks to ya. But for the price you could have about one of eveything else except
the very rarest stuff. Bang for the buck, buy an SX96 or an SX100.

But my experience has been that even non-radio types are attracted to it in a
pile of radios, without a clue how rare it is or its rep. There is somehing
going on there you don't get from an R390. It just hasn't got anything to
do with it how it works, i think.
