Another couple of thoughts on that gimmick cap.  You could solder a 
short piece of insulated wire to the tube socket then twist it and 
the wire coming from the bfo about 3 turns.  Twist it like a tie 
wrap on loaf of bread, than cut off any excess at the top of about 3 
twists.  Another solution would be install a one terminal strip and 
terminate the wire from the bfo.  Get a 1, 2 or 3 pf. ceramic cap 
and run it between the terminal and tube socket.

I have seen old time hams do both.  The twisted wire thing has saved 
me many times in the field when I didn't have a low value cap to 
replace a blown one.  If you are a purist, then the low value 
ceramic installation probably won't do, but it does add mechanical 
stability.
