Thanks for the replies. Todd got to what I was looking for in regards to 
price v performance v rarity.


I have collected so far r-390, r-390a, sx-28(a), sx-42, the 51j series, 
sp-600's.  What I look for in a receiver is quality engineering for its time 
period. Obviously I can't use them all, but I enjoy the challenge of 
restoring them, marveling at the engineering that went into them and 
enjoying their sound.  So, I would say I am more of a restorer, and user 
than a collector of rare receivers.
