John,
During the week, I put the B+ to the HT-33A and it loaded up just fine on 80M SSB! I held the power down to 500 watts output. On AM with 25 watts drive I was getting nearly 300 watts output and fine signal reports. So I guess the HT-32A is doing its job.
I am going to have to change the bias resistor setup because I do not have enough adjustment with the values given in the Hallicrafters engineering update. . Back in the 60's line voltages ran around 115-117 vac. Here at my house we have 122-124 vac most of the time and that raises the voltages inside the HT-33A. I am going to check the filament voltage on the PL-172 and may have to add a dropping resistor in there in addition to.the soft start system. I want to do everything I can to prolong the life of that tube. For now, I am sticking with the PL-172.
