There is a HUGE difference between "UPS Stores" and the "UPS Customer Service Centers" - The Centers are full service places, incredibly polite and helpful, and I've found that they're a heck of a lot CHEAPER than the stores, too. Their other advantage is that they carry these really wonderful catalytically-activated polyurethane foam "pillows" which create a custom packing crate for anything you surround with them.

The packing material I've described is called:

Sealed Air

Instapak Quick
foam packaging

They're made by:

Sealed Air
Protective Packaging
10 Old Sherman Turnpike
Danbury, CT 06819

203 / 791-3500

www.instapakquick.com

They come in several sizes

#60, #80, and others -

You get 'em PRETTY WARM, almost hot.. then take 'em out of the package, and smooth them out - then hit 'em with your fist which breaks the catalyst container inside, and then mix the polyurethane up (it's inside the plastic bag)...

I use a BIG one on the bottom of a shipping box, then four of the small ones on each side, then another BIG one on top.. close the box, and tape 'er up..... what you end up with is a CUSTOM FITTED shipping container for whatever you're shipping... Oh, and it can be USED AGAIN, too. Stuff doesn't wiggle around, it doesn't shift, and punctures have to go about a full inch or so before they'd actually hit the radio.

It is THE ONLY WAY to ship stuff

Here's an example:

1955 Hallicrafters SX-62A
Net weight 55 lbs.

Total cost for custom (cut down) UPS box, Six (6) Instapak "pillows", $600 insurance, & shipping from Denver to Sacramento was $61.00 total...

Try 'em - you'll like 'em
