Thats why I often use Purolator. Either the fee is waived if the value is
low or its very reasonable.

UPS definitely adds a brokerage fee for doing nothing but filling out a
piece of paper. What they do is to "transfer" the shipment to the brokerage
company (which is UPS themselves) on paper to bring the item across the
border and then back to UPS stateside. For this they typically charge $50
or more.
Several years ago I received a Collins 75A-3 that was shipped from
Vancouver, B.C., and UPS charged me $50 for the brokerage fee.
If you use the Post Office then there is no brokerage fee. Just last
Saturday I received a receiver shipped from Canada and there was no duty or
brokerage fee.

I'm in the US and am contemplating the purchase of a receiver from a Ham in

that duty, if large enough, would make the purchase impractical.
Is there anyone on the list who can offer insight into whether an import
duty would be assessed and, if so, how much it is likely to be?
Apologies to Duane and the list for posting an off topic question, but I've
scoured the web for two weeks and can't seem to find anything useful.
