That's interesting...I'd been stocking up on 6HF5s. I'd seen some 6LB6 or
6LR6 substitutions (not saying they are good ones, though) but didn't know
about the 6GC5.

> Question is, can I shim the smaller plate cap up ... without affecting
performance?

Seems reasonable. A bit of shim on one side, between connector & tube cap,
may be enough. Then part of the connector is in direct contact with the
tube cap & you shouldn't have to worry about any unforeseen odd effects of
wrapping the cap with foil.  It may also be easy to replace the connectors.
