If you go to the R-390 reflector and search the archives, you will find 
any number of threads on chassis cleaning.  One method that seems to be 
used by some is to put the chassis in the dish washer and dry it in the 
oven.  I have never had the nerve to try if myself, but those who have 
report good success.

Another method is to build an easel like structure out of wood where the 
chassis is put on it with one corner lower than the others so the water 
can drain off readily.  Use a mixture of household ammonia and Formula 
409 in a spray bottle with a short, stiff bristle brush.  Flush gently 
with a garden hose.  If you are a fanatic, follow with a distilled water 
rinse.  After that bake in an oven at low temperature, if your wife will 
let you get away with it.  If you use any kind of hydrocarbon solvent in 
the process, it's best not to use a gas oven.  Some people who do a lot 
of this kind of work buy an old electric stove just to dry chassis.

I use the ammonia and 409 method and try to confine this sort of work to 
the summer time.  Here in Florida a few hours in the summer sun does an 
excellent job of drying.
