I appreciate all the ex post facto advice. The problem is, I can't use a different browser; they give us IE at work and forbid us to download anything else. Apparently they bought IE with the system and don't want to pay for licensing anything else on many hundreds of computers.
I uses what they gives me to use.
I'm not it IT (thank the Lord) so I have no say in this.
One thing I suspect may have happened, is that three weeks or so ago the Network Nazis did crank the entire system's security settings through the roof; and the result was, about 85% of the Internet -- including many sites we have to use regularly, including vendors' catalog pages -- was no longer accessible. (Actually I hate clicking through a web site... "a tree's gotta die before I'm gonna buy.") I think a lot of people must have complained. All of a sudden the formerly-blocked sites were available again; but the network security level may have been lowered too far.
Agreed: Tube gear doesn't suffer from these satanic possessions. That, and the fact that I can actually diagnose and fix it -- unlike SMT, which like the computer, the cell phone, and the SUV, is yet another of the Devil's Devices -- is why I appreciate "light-emitting, glass-enclosed fieli-effect transistor" technology and will do everything in my power to not only perpetuate, but propagate it.
