So true.  The best way to align any IF is to use a sweep generator. 
I managed to snag one a few years back and it sure makes alignment 
so much better.

If you think you can't afford a sweep generator, look for an audio 
or function generator with the sweep feature included.  They are 
more plentiful than one realizes.  Very useful tool for this 
purpose.
