Duane wondered if the technicians testing the hot antenna would have  
been as bold if it had been their money in the thing.  Most likely  
their boldness was based on faith that the thing had been engineered  
very well, and was in fact designed to take care of itself. It did  
shut itself down, according to the story.

I was on the USS Eisenhower on it's first trip at sea.  That's a very  
big nuclear powered aircraft carrier.  They tested the engines at full  
power because they really did need to see if they would work right.  I  
think no one was surprised that they did work correctly.
