The capacitor is actually a 1uF big paper capacitor.Maybe the guy who  
recapped the rcvr changed to a higher value which is pretty common.Also there  are 2 
versions of the SX16(also the SX-17).ON the earlier versions the bandshaft  
doesn't extend all the way back to the rear apron.Plus there are differences in 
 the RF gain control circuitry plus some other minor differences.
Typical values for the RF bypass capacitor on the gain control are  0.25uF.
