I used a 6AG7 with a pair of the full size 6L6's.  Looked crude but 
worked great and weighed ... a lot!
I built it in the corner of an old TV chassis back when TVs had a BIG, 
heavy, steel chassis and a PS big enough to run at least several hundred 
watts.  Those transformers were big and heavy.

Oh! Almost forgot, I had a 12AT7 TR switch in one corner of the chassis. 
So here I was running the legal limit (for a Novice as a Novice) and QSK.
