While I can't think of any, are there any other circuit configurations for
ham applications, other than GG, when it would beneficial or necessary to
disconnect the suppressor grid (by cutting the base) and bringing it out to
its own pin?

Not necessarily true. Some tied it inside the socket, depends on Mfg. I
remember the days of cutting open
the base to unhook the suppressor and bring it to a pin so could be used in
GG amp. I think the RCA brand
it was tied inside the envelope, couldn't be modified. Not real sure on
that.
