Rich;

The SX-42 is different than any other receiver I have seen. Most
receivers have the bandspread capacitor at minimum capacity at one end of
rotation. The SX-42 has minimum capacity with the capacitor about half
way. If you look at the capacitor you will see that going either way will
increase the capacity. Leave it in the center at minimum capacity while
you align the oscillator. mixer and RF stages. Good luck.

working my way through the alignment but the frequencies seem way off.
The main tuning cap seems correct as it is completely meshed just as the
dial hits the low end of the scale.

I remember someone mentioning that they thought the band spread should be
half meshed at zero.....  The "Dial Service" bulletin does not address
this.
