Quite likely I've been lucky, but over many years including an
electronics business back in the 60's and 70's I've never had an item
ruined via UPS. I've had a few boxes looking pretty ratty by the time
they got to me, but still, it's not a bad average. I still get about
three shipments of computer and electronic parts a week. Generally the
boxes look like new. Of course the next one in could be trashed. Who knows?

The mentality you mention above exists in all businesses be they
shipping, manufacturing, or even restaurants (Isn't that a comforting
thought for your imagination on your next meal out<g>). And that
mentality isn't limited to the younger crowd.

I spent a week end at O'Hare International one afternoon. I arrived mid
morning and my flight out wasn't until 7:00 PM. It was hot and pouring
rain in heavy thunderstorms. As we sat there watching the workers
loading luggage onto a conveyor a guy tossed a black, hard shell guitar
case way up onto the conveyor which at this point had water running down
it. Of course the case hit, bounced, and landed on the concrete some 10
feet over on the other side. The guy next to me remarked "I'm glad that
isn't my guitar." My reply was "Yah and I wish it wasn't mine. I hope
it's still usable." Turns out the water didn't even get inside and the
hard case protected the body, but to see something that expensive tossed
like that made me glad I chose to take the electric and not the
Acoustic. <:-))
