Like I said, those types don't know "radio", they've watched a few 
episodes of Antiques Roadshow and maybe seen audio-philes selling tubes, 
"the warmth of the sound was like fine wine in my ears."

Worse case that was a terrific project radio.   No matter how bad the 
bottom, it could have been, and probably should have been recapped, 
resistors replaced as needed.

I had a 1970's SB-303 that was dripping electrolyte from the big 
capacitor.   It's just part of maintenance and radio restoration.
