Mike,

Mind you I have not done it yet, but I have considered parting out
one radio. It's NOT a "perfectly good radio". It's Viking I which
has suffered many many very badly done mods:

  - VR tube hung by the wires to the socket pins under the chassis
- 4D32 replaced with a pair of 6146's, space made with a hacksaw.
- no cabinet at all
- other mods too obscure and badly done to recognize.

In another case, I have both a BC-348 and an HQ-145 in which all the
tube parts (sockets, wiring, resistors, caps) have been removed and
discarded. In their place, small BC boards with solly state parts
soldered to the board dead bug style have been installed. Also, the
cases have been spray painted in striped red, white and blue. Knobs
and all. (shudder).

I have seriously considered simply putting these radios out of their
misery.

Roy
