[Hallicrafters] Ink jet printing on overhead transparency sheets.

I've been reading up on using the transparency sheets to make silkscreen
masters.

It occurred to me that the sheets themselves could be glued to front
panels, as Glen has done. That saves the whole process of making a
silk screen.

Then I thought, suppose I printed the mirror image, that would put the
printing on the bottom and the sheet would be the "clear coat".

While this might be too glossy for a purist, there's a fellow who is
silk screening EF Johnson radios and he's clear coating his work to
protect it.

I've seen an example and while it's non-standard, it's "better than
new", in my opinion. The radio glows.

What I can't figure out is how to make a real textured panel. I could
use a photo editor to fill the panel with a simulated texture but it
would be a picture of texture.

There's another technology that I've heard about. Sign shops can make
vinyl overlays. I haven't looked into this but I know a guy who does
highly detailed dress ups for race cars and motorcycles. There's a
fellow on the Heath list who makes HW-16 front panel overlays using that
technology. He says it's not perfect but the images look pretty good.
