[Hallicrafters] SX-17 S-meter and variations

I am not that familiar with the various Halli "S" meter setups,
but am wondering: how many Halli receivers simply have the
meters mounted upside-down?

In many "S" meter circuits, the highest current in the
metered stage would occur at minimum signal, and
conversely, lowest current would occur at maximum signal.

Therefore, in those types of circuits, a normal meter would
rest against the right end of the scale at minimum signal, but
against the left stop when the receiver was off.

In order to correct this most easily, the meter would be,
simply, mounted upside-down, OR a special, "back-wards
reading" meter would have to be installed.

If either of these were the case, when the receiver was off,
the meter would rest against the RIGHT stop.

Realizing that most receiver manufacturers would not
normally want to go to the added expense of a special
meter, mounting a normal meter upside-down would be a
standard practice.

It seems to me that many National receivers (HRO-50/60?)
do this.

Thoughts?
