Thanks to all who participated in the HHI 40 meter Net this afternoon, or
tried to! The forty meter band sort of sucked like an old Hoover vacuum with
a bad line cord drawing insufficient current resulting in human coughing and
hacking from dust blowing out the air intake and many fast fades in the
pursuit of dust bunnies!
I did have a most enjoyable, and informative, QSO with the very talented
Halli Healer K9AXN, Jim in Illinois. He was using the top of the line
Hallicrafters transceiver the SR-2000. He had a signal into Flint, Michigan
of 5/9 to 5/9+20 Q5, depending on the QSB of the moment!
Jim is certainly known to many of you and has restored numerous SR-400 and
SR-400a and SR-2000 transceivers. In fact, the HHI Web Master, the very
gifted Jim Thayer, W5JT, currently has a pair of transceivers visiting Dr.
Jim for electrical therapy and some "joint" replacements!
It is "always" a pleasure to have a QSO with 'any' of you, but it is even
more exciting when one of the super talented restoration wizards, or
technical wizards like Al Parker, W8UT (and others) join us. It is
absolutely incredible how much knowledge and practical wisdom there is on
this one mail list! "Have Question Will Travel" visits this list, and
others, daily, and it is very rare that one of the electronic gun slingers
of silver solder can not drill the question right through the red center of
the Ace Of Hearts with an answer! Tremendous talent, which all of us thank
all of you for sharing with us.
