Not the drinkin' type:
"Rubbing" alcohol is only 70% (look at the label) - the other 30 percent is
water and often, glycerine. The glycerine can leave a sticky film on
things, which is why it's simply AWFUL for cleaning tape and video heads.
"Medical" alcohol is 91% - great for cuts and bruises, but it doesn't CUT
oily films or ink-type marks.
"99.9% Isopropyl" alcohol is used for cleaning, and prep of surfaces. When
I worked for an avionics company, we used it for removal of rosin from PC
boards as well. It WILL cut through Magic Marker and ball-pen ink, removes
cigarette smoke films, and cleans oily films from things (very useful and
RECOMMENDED for cleaning rubber parts). If you're going to PAINT
something - after the wet-sanding and washing... then AIR drying... moisten
a CLEAN cloth with this stuff, and wipe down the surface - then a final wipe
with another DRY (clean) cloth - ALL of the paint will stick.
NOTE: If you clean rubber parts with it, "relube" it with silicon spray (on
your fingers) - THEN rub it onto the parts for a like-new appearance that
will LAST.
...and that's the truth Pffffft!
