I've had good luck refinishing fins, using Brasso and a NEW sponge.  You 
have to put some elbow-grease into it, but ultimately, you get the shine 
back, but without scratches.  Then wash them off with dishwashing soap and 
water, then a final cleaning with 99.8% Isopropyl Alcohol (NOT "rubbing" or 
"medical" type)... now you can repaint the black lines in between some of 
them.
