I forgot about the S-76

Image rejection but it killed what little selectivity was possible at 455.

National tried a 1560 IF in 1938 with the NC-81X ham band only receiver.
With a crystal filter and 3 IF stages it was a decent low cost performer.
The catacomb coil rack enabled reasonable RF performance without an RF
stage. IMO, the NC-81X is a sleeper for a low band ham receiver; it even has
160M coverage.
