Waldo:
The BFO knob attaches to a shaft extension which in turn attaches to the
bfo slug.
The shaft extension has a tang which limits the rotation of the shaft to
~ 355 degrees.
Look inside the radio.
You will see a 4-spline set-screw (sorry I don't know the
number/dimension.).
Once this set-screw is loosened, the slug and shaft extension move
freely with respect to each other.

If you have done this, then the extension is frozen to the slug shaft.
Use some WD-40 on a length of stiff wire.
Let it set for an hour or so and reapply the WD-40.

Getting the alignment correct and the inside set-screw reset is a bit of
a chore. You need to rotate the slug and shaft extension together
while they are still loose to move the set-screw to a location into
which you can fanagle the spline wrench.
It takes some practice, but its doable. I have two SX-117s. I know.
