[Hallicrafters] Did Power Line Voltage Increase from 110 to 120V?

That is why you buy 130 volt incadescent bulbs and not
the 120 volt bulbs that are found everywhere! The 130
volt bulbs are available but you often have to look
for them on the shelves. Since the 120 volt bulbs
burn out about 10 times faster all the stores keep
"pushing" them so that their sales keep at a high
level.
When I was with TXU (electric company for about half
the State of Texas) and was on their "speaker's
bureau" no matter what the topic of my talk I always
got at least one question about short lived light
bulbs. My "stock" answer was to get the 130 volt
bulbs. Sometimes I would "run into" someone who had
taken my suggestion and they were astounded at how
much longer the 130 volt bulbs last.

I wonder how much the increases in voltage affects
their billing? More voltage makes you consume more
power - especially in resistive loads. Also hard on
incadescent light bulbs.
