[Hallicrafters] Did Power Line Voltage Increase from 110 to 120V?

Hallicrafters had a "universal" version of the S-20R
receiver that had a switch on the top of the power
transformer. The first "universal" versions had 2
positions (110 VAC and 220 VAC). Later they went to a
4 position switch with 110 VAC, 130 VAC, 220 VAC, and
250 VAC (not 260 VAC). I have one of the later
"universal" models. Also had one of the "regular"
models which the manual says 117 VAC.

A number of receivers from the 1930s and even into the
1940s have various taps on the primary winding that,
depending on the individual receiver, range from like
100 volts to 135 volts, usually in 5 volt steps.

At one time there was no US standard; each supplier
set his own and it was anywhere from 105 to around
130V. My 1928 Radiola 18 has a switch on the PS
chassis marked 110/120V; this was factory and not an
add-on.
