[Hallicrafters] Antenna Ice

Ken is right on the bean. One thing we've done out here in Colorado (some
of our repeat-me's are at about 13,000 feet), is to paint 'em with NON
metallic paint, in a FLAT BLACK color. (artiists out there will tell you
that's the Lack of Color). It doesn't affect the radiation in the warm or
cold, but when the Sun shines on them, the flat-black does mitigate some of
the ice, and then can eventually rid themselves of ice - not always, you
understand - but we are known for having approx 350 days of Sunshine a year.

We often had to chip the ice from our antennas, out at sea, while I was in
the Navy. The guys up in the Formosa Straits and up around Newfoundland
really get it - don't remind me of the boatswain's mates who were chipping
on the waveguides - that's a WHOLE OTHER story.
