As an Atlanta (where everyone's from somewhere else) native, I'd like to 
submit the following:

The Atlanta Constitution has a "Vent" column.  Once a person from New 
Jersey wrote in complaining that he wasn't finding people in Atlanta to 
be very friendly.  I replied:

"I lived in New Jersey for six years.  I enjoyed the good things and 
kept my mouth shut about things I didn't like.  If you tried that down 
here, you'd be our friend and neighbor, too."

Now that I live in my wife's home town, I follow the same policy.
