As this thread has progressed there has been a couple statements made in answer to a VERY simple & innocent question that have no place here, or anywhere else in the Ham community.
I collect military radios & have for MANY years. Some of those say Collins on them, some Hallicrafters, Some Motorola, etc, etc.
Some transmit or receive AM, some SSB & CW. They all have one thing in common, I like to use them all. It's much easier to find somebody to use them with if you have some idea where they may hang out. I have every bit as much fun running my TCS in a QSO with a bunch of guys on 40mtrs USB as I do my GRC-106 on 3885 in comms with a BC-610. Again, it's much easier to find them if you know where to look.
I also love QRP, & HFpack operation & do so EVERY day, & yes, we have calling freqs for both of those two.
To close, Dennis D is EXACTLY right!
Yes, if you are legally licensed for the frequency in question, you can usually transmit any mode you want regardless of it's "gentleman's agreement" portion of the band voice, cw, data or otherwise, but your chance of a successful contact & communications will severally hampered.

Sitting on a make-believe "calling frequency" or in a make-believe "AM Window" makes no sense to me.(And similar sentiments expressed by others)
Well, OK so call it an AM congregating area, neighborhood or whatever. Birds of a feather do flock together as do AMers. Believe the usual gathering areas have all been identified in the course of this thread.
