A dipole should cover the full bands if cut for the middle.
On 20M I usually find a clear spot above 14.250 and call CQ; on 15M its 
anywhere above 21.3

With poor propagation there are many times there are no replies even 
when I use the 304TL's modulated by 250TH's. That all goes into a 4el 
monoband yagis at 90-100'. Many times I have SSBers answer and have some 
enjoyable chats.
