[Hallicrafters] SX-101A Converter Subchassis

Some of the SX-101 series radios have what I call a "cavity cap" in the osc
section of the band switch. If the seal breaks on these (red substance), it
causes the cap to move and it will change your frequency. I have even seen
them so loose that just breathing on them will make a CW signal warble
really bad.

Gary

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-101A Converter Subchassis

Greetings --

I'm going to try and get the caps in the subchassis replaced over
Christmas. I've a few questions.

1)  T2 and T5 contain a pair of 300 pf and 390 pf caps respectively;
I assume they're 10% 500V Silver Mica caps.

2) C206 is a 2.2 pf 10% ceramic. I don't expect this to be bad; Is
this one of those "dog bone" type caps?

I recapped my SX-101A about a year ago -- much peppier now, replaced
out of spec resistors. I still need to do the filter switch caps and
the subchassis.

The radio decides to change frequency every now and then, and I can
typically "make it better" by changing the mode switch back and forth
a few times.

Any advise etc more than welcomed.
