I set up a separate bank account to link up to Paypal that is used for
PayPal only and it never has more than $5 in it except temporarily when I transfer
a PayPal payment to it which I then transfer to my main checking account.

If you use PayPal for any reason they have access to your bank account.
It sounds as if you are laboring under a false sense of security.
