I really shouldn't post after being up nearly 24 hours, sorry!  On edit 
the CORRECT difference is the SX-88 uses two different 1'st IF 
frequencies depending upon band in use and the later models all use a 
roughly 1650 KC first IF with the conversion oscillator either being 
above or below this IF to select sideband.  Bad, bad Rodger....
