[Hallicrafters] S-38D/E dial pointer question

I have an S-38E I've been slowly tinkering with. I had to remove the main
tuning cord and reroute it because it had been done wrong sometime in the
past. Anyway, I'm not sure where the dial pointer needs to be set on the
cord, now. I have a theory, & would like to see if anyone knows if it is
correct.
On the S-38D & E models, at the left end of the dial scale markings, there
are a pair of marks spaced just about the width of the pointer. On the
S-38D it is off the left end (lowest freq end) of Band 4 scale, on the
S-38E it is off the left end of the Band 1 scale.
My theory is that those marks are where the pointer is to be set when the
main tuning cap is at full mesh. They don't seem to have any other
purpose. Does anyone know if that is correct?
Thanks & 73,
