Stu,

Perhaps we should remind them of those halcyon daze of youth and yesteryear, 
when a NOVICE called CQ on 1 of his maybe 3 or 4 xtals, then tuned THE WHOLE 
BAND, listening for his callsign.

Yeah, it's easier today, but I recall the first time I used a Collins S-Line 
(The US Navy always seemed to have 'em for our base hamshacks) - the quantum 
leap to a readout that actually read down to the Kc (sorry, kids - they're 
still cycles to me) was astounding.  Imagine my surprise when I traded up 
from a SWAN 500C (another leap) to a Kenwood TS-430S - digital readout? 
Heck, I had digital readout from birth - 10 fingers (digital, indeed)

New is handy, but old is fun - as in radios - as in people
