I dont think that my 4000# folding engine hoist will fit in the basement
either. Besides I keep it busy lifting automotive BA's such as flatheads; Y
Blocks, MELS, Nailheads, Olds Rockets, etc. Thats my "other" hobby/business.
However, low profile center mount 500 to 1000# versions are available. These
are usually sold to be mounted in pickup beds ( I have one in my 1954 F-350)
and are available with hydraulic rams or 12VDC motors. These could be
mounted on a sturdy roll around cart with another BA on the bottom platform
as ballast.
Those with sufficient ceiling height might consider a running beam chain
falls arrangement with a nylon sling.
