[Hallicrafters] OLD OR VINTAGE OR ANTIQUE

Hey Walt -

In today's world of rapidly changing technology, anything 2 years old
may very well be obsolete, but not antique or even 'classic'. Vintage
is a term that gets misused a lot. My understanding of the word is
related to its more specific use, like '1950s vintage' or such.

In the world of cars, 'antique' is 25 years or older, I think.
'Classic' is....over ten years? Or 20? Can't recall. Maybe it's 30 for
antique, 20 for classic? *shrug*

With radios, you see a lot of folks listing older Yaecomwood radios as
'boatanchors', despite the term originally being coined to described
heavy, large, obsolete vacuum tube gear. Perhaps related to the
changing radio demographic? They may be old, but to me - they'll never
be boatanchors. Antique? Sure, eventually everything is.

Like anything else, it's all open to opinion and personal preference.

Vintage gear is 15 to 30 years old and antique kicks in at 30 years. Is this just a matter of opinion or is there an accepted rule. Or does any one even care.
