I still like the glow of the tubes.  As a young lad back in Arkansas I used to listen to my radio at night after Mom said lights out, but my radio had no dial lights.  Like someone else said it looked like a village all light up in there.  I have almost a complete set of glass tubes for my SX-99, I like to watch em glow.  I even have a glass 6H6!!

Horrors upon horrors - I may even replace the #47s with LEDs.  Only about 5% of the #47s light reach the dials anyway.  I will build a rectifier to plug in the #47 socket and stick the smaller LEDs in front of the dials behind the cast iron front.  Then I can see 
the dials and also watch the tubes glow.  But then I may trip over the 259.340 feet of zip-cord.
