[Hallicrafters] SX-73

How about a picture Jack?
I've had two of them and they are pretty good band cruisers. The one I have
now is in lousy mechanical condition but looks good. If you have all the
original parts then you are way ahead of the game since parts are hard to
come by. One thing I did notice is that the big bulb 6Y6 audio is better
than the SP 600 but the AVC has a problem if you want to rx/tx with it. A
local transmitter will hang up the AVC for a very long time rendering it
difficult to use. Hallicrafters added a relay on the rear internal upright
to deal with that but I don't know if they cured it or not. If you have a
relay there, that's the AVC mod.
Good luck and enjoy!

Just got my sx-73 and it is for sure a different breed of cat compared to
the other Hallicrafter rigs I own. Built like a battleship with every
component really held in place.

It works on all bands and tuning is smooth as silk. Front panel is clean
with no scars.

I suspect it needs to be tuned up but will only attempt that when I have
read the manual more closely. Any suggestions are appreciated.

73 Jack
