Doug,
I just used single caps mounted on terminal strips underneath the chassis.
I have also dug out the old caps in the multi-cap cans and just put in the
singles inside, Using heat shrink on the leads so there aren't any shorts.

Greetings all,
Just had to share. I got a bug and went ahead and
recapped my S-38D. It was working fine, it's working
better now. Wow, it's hot! Everything is stronger and
louder than I remember.
I used all "Orange Dips", just my preference. I keep
these on hand,
http://www.justradios.com/capkits.html#kit3 I think
I'll add a 3 prong power cord later today, maybe fuse
it, test out the rest of the circuits and give it an
alignment check for the hell of it.
My only question is have any of you replaced the
filter capacitor? What do you do/where do you get them
or do make your own?
My dad bought it new back in 1955 or thereabouts when
he was a just a kid after saving up for months. He
wanted an S-53A, but I guess the extra 25-30 bucks was
a stretch.
When I was young, the S-38D is what I grew up with.
Staying up late listening for things when I should
have been in bed asleep. Had it ever since.
He eventually did get the S-53A, albeit a bit late. I
gave it to him on his 62nd birthday three years ago.
Doug
