Ask any old-timer for the "piece" about how to remember the colors. In US
Navy Electronics Technician "A" school, they tried to teach us the "clean"
version, but nobody bought it. Much easier to remember the other one.
Bad Boys R*** our young girls, but violet gives willingly.

The old resistors were BODY - END - DOT. The BODY is the first significant
number, the END the second, and the DOT is the multiplier. Most of these
were 20% tolerance, and are WAY OFF. I have found that they're useful for
load resistors, when you're testing batteries, though.
