[Hallicrafters] SX-42 S-meter

The S-meters on every Hallicrafters receiver I am
familiar with -- basically the SX-16 through the
SX-101 (and some later than that) -- are right hand
resting meters. That is, the meter points to the
right hand side of the scale when the power is off.
The mechanical zero set screw is meant to align the
pointer at the right side, or "top" side. It isn't
supposed to zero the pointer to the bottom of the
scale. The electrical zero pot is to align it at the
left, or bottom end, of the scale. See your manual
for the correct procedure; but most of them specify
AVC on, RF gain wide open, BFO off, antenna terminals
shorted.
