[Hallicrafters] British-made Hallicrafters HT-9s?

Hi All,

I was trawling through some post-war "Short Wave Magazines" this evening,
looking for Command Set adverts, when I came across an intriguing ad for a
British-made Hallicrafters HT-9 transmitter. These were apparently made by
McElroy-Adams Manufacturing Group Ltd, with a London address and who were
"sole UK Hallicrafters Concessionaires". Other Hallicrafters models were
promised but not itemised. There is a photo of the HT-9 in the ad and it
appears to be the model with circular meters, as shown on WA1KPD's web site,
http://home.comcast.net/~chnord/HT-9.htm

The full-page adverts seemed to run for just a couple of months around the
end of 1946 and then disappeared. Does anyone know if this venture was
still-born or did they produce any significant quantities of equipment?
Given the state of the post-war UK economy and the restrictions on imports
at that time, I would not be surprised if the scheme folded through lack of
parts. I know McElroy had imported telegraphy gear prior to and during WWII
but had not heard of them in this connection.

73,

Roger/G3VKM - Norfolk, England.
