I have encountered two Halli receivers with 115/230
"U" transformers, and in each case the only difference
is the transformer itself.  In the S-20R and S-40,
there are selector knobs on top of the transformers to
change the primary configuration from 115 to 230.  I
also have a universal transformer for an SX-28, and
this one has a slide switch on top.  I don't think
there are any other changes necessary to make a "U"
version.

Yes, the transformers are different; I think all of
the "U" versions have a dual primary with windings in
parallel for 115 and in series for 230.

Too bad you didn't ask earlier; about a week ago at a
hamfest I saw some NIB Triad 230/115 500 watt step
down isolation transformers, going begging at $10
each.
