[Hallicrafters] SX-71

Gentlemen (and ladies), I need your help. A couple of weeks ago, I bought an SX-71receiver that looked to be in great shape other than being dirty. I have cleaned it up, repainted the cabinet and am in the process of ordering new capacitors to replace the old electrolytics and paper. Several tubes have been replaced and the chassis has been cleaned. So far, so good.

Here is my problem. I removed the cover of the alignment section and found that the antenna coil for band 1 (am broadcast band) is burnt to a crisp! Everything else looks OK. I have three questions. First, what could have caused this? Second, What do I do to make sure this does not occur in the future? Third, and most important, where can I get a replacement? The Hallicrafters part number is 51B1088. Does anyone have a spare from a parts radio, or is there some other source? Please steer me in the right direction. I am willing to buy one from someone if they have one.

This is my first restoration project since I am fairly new at this game. I don't want to be stopped by a coil. Any help, suggestions, guidance, etc is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
