How much is "just a shade off"?
The SX-99, or most any other radio of that price class
and vintage, is not expected to be frequency-meter
accurate. If the dial is within 1/4 division at 15
MHz and you have no other obvious problems, that may
be as good as you are likely to get.
Consider this:
If the dial seems to be about the same amount "off" on
all bands, maybe loosening the set screws on the dial
itself and slipping it until the reading is more
nearly correct will solve your problem. It's a lot
easier than realignment.
If you do try to realign it, remember that the coil
slugs in these receivers are sealed with beeswax.
Don't try to turn the slugs without melting the wax
out first, or they slugs WILL break. Then you'd have
a real mess.
It can indeed be done! And it's not that hard. It's
all in knowing how to proceed. But if you don't have
to, don't.
