Ah, but you miss the point: if you "didn't plug it in" or "it doesn't
light up", you save yourself the time. Let someone else sweat the
small stuff, you did the tough part: cleaned it up!

It's much easier to continue with "...but it looks like it would
work", one of my personal favorites. I've always wondered if that was
just shorthand for 'has all the knobs and a plug'.
