I am overhauling an SX 42 and am near the end and about to align the set.
However, before electronically aligning things, I am wondering if anyone can
offer advice as to the proper mechanical keying of the 2 plastic dials to
their shafts as well as the keying of the crystal filter and BFO knobs to their
shafts.
With regard to the BFO/crystal filters knobs, I note that they are attached
to small butterfly condensors behind the panel. I would assume that with both
knobs on their zero marks, the butterflys should be exactly half meshed. That
way there would be a sweep from condensor fully closed to fully open when the
knobs are moved to the "5" marks on either side of zero. Am I right?
With regards to the bandspread dial. I note that when it is set to the zero
line, the condensor is fully unmeshed ( minimum capacity ). Is this right?
The big question relates to the main tuning dial. Before removing it, I did
make alignment marks so I could put it back where it was but nevertheless, I
would like to know for sure that the dial hub is locked to it's shaft in the
proper place.
The manual says nothing about these matters.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks ! Glenn K6PZT
